Peer2Peer STEM

Peer2Peer STEM is an After School Matters–funded youth development and employment program that provides teens with paid, hands-on opportunities through a proven train-the-trainer model. This approach builds youth leadership and capacity by empowering participants to become facilitators of learning—allowing them to teach, lead activities, and showcase the skills and knowledge they acquire throughout the program.

As peer leaders, teens serve as mentors and positive role models for younger students while strengthening their own communication, teamwork, and professional skills. Participants also have the opportunity to earn digital badges through Chicago City of Learning, recognizing their achievements and documenting workforce-ready and STEM competencies.

The Peer2Peer STEM Enrichment Program emphasizes hands-on, inquiry-based learning across all STEM content areas. This approach is especially effective in out-of-school-time settings, where learning can complement, extend, and enrich what students experience during the K–12 school day. By encouraging curiosity, exploration, and real-world problem-solving, Peer2Peer STEM creates meaningful learning experiences that prepare youth for future academic and STEM career success.
